A ‘low’ profile

This week on ‘A low profile’ we take a look at the business marketing side of fashion and have a one to one with the product specialist at fresh, but well-known company EDITED.

Firstly, some bits and bobs about Edited. EDITED is located in London, New York and Australia, but was originated in London.

The company is a garment data warehouse and they use retail and runway information to produce trend reports for fashion businesses and retailers. Geoff Watts and Julia Fowler founded EDITED in 2009, they invented the company, as they were dissatisfied with lack of data used in the fashion industry and wanted to change that for the better.

Now unto the profile!

1.) What made you interested in fashion?

I'm a pretty creative person, and I've been interested in art and design since I can remember. I'm possibly influenced by my brother, who is a practicing artist. When I hit my teen years, I started to grow an interest in fashion and, as a natural progression after studying art, I decided to study fashion and textiles. I just stuck with it!

2.) How difficult was it to find a job when you graduated?

I was very lucky when I graduated because I started my job at EDITED less than two weeks after I handed in my final major project! I'm certain that this is due to my experience, as I completed three internships while at uni. The last was with EDITED.

3.) Would you say your grades and degree make a major difference between finding a suitable job or not?

For me, the grade I got from my degree definitely didn't make any difference when applying to jobs (since I started my job before even getting my results!). For creative jobs in the fashion industry, I definitely think your portfolio speaks far louder than your grade.

4.) How did you come across Edited?

I first heard about EDITED while completing another internship.

5.) Do you have any tips for all those fashion graduates out there?

I'd say experience is key. I totally believe that I got my job because I worked hard to get internships at really reputable places and I networked.

If you’re in the hunt for any fashion jobs, Edited has some roles available for you business savvy ladies out there. And offer internships if anyone is looking for some extra experience.
